What is Anaerobic Digestion?

Anareobic digestion is the process by which bacteria breaks down organic waste matter (such as landfill methane, animal and food waste, and wastewater treatment sludge) in the absence of oxygen to produce a combination of biogas and digestate. The biogas can be sent to a natural gas processing facility to produce pipeline quality renewable natural gas, while the digestate, or residual material, can be used as fertlizer or as the feedstock for other bio-based products.
