Gulf Coast Natural Gas Prices Tread Lightly to Kick Off October Bidweek Trading as Helene Nears

Natural gas prices at key hubs near the Gulf Coast traded mostly sideways during the first day of bidweek trading on Tuesday. Production moved lower and storage surpluses narrowed, but forecasts pointed to a powerful hurricane impacting the region this week.

NGI’s Bidweek Alert (BWA) showed small price movements from East Texas through South Louisiana to launch a bidweek period that continues Wednesday and culminates Thursday.

In basis trade, Katy and Houston Ship Channel in Texas both moved in a narrow range and averaged minus 31.0 cents/MMBtu. That compared with a Houston Ship Channel average of minus 29.25 cents and a Katy average of minus 25.0 cents for September bidweek.
