Natural gas futures probed lower to kick off the new week as forecasts called for fading cooling demand and production recovered some ground from the lows of the prior week.

Morning market report

The October Nymex gas futures contract was down 3.0 cents to $2.275/MMBtu as of 8:30 ET on Monday.

NatGasWeather said forecast models to start the week showed enduring lofty temperatures in pockets of the Lower 48 and regionally strong cooling demand for the second half of September. Still, coverage of summer-like heat was expected to recede in coming weeks.
