U.S. Natural Gas Rig Count Dips as Activity Eases into Fall; Canadian Tally Follows Suit

The U.S. natural gas rig count declined by one unit to 96 for the week ended Friday (Sept. 20) as drilling slowed ahead of the fall shoulder season, according to updated Enverus and Baker Hughes Co. (BKR) data.

Including a flat level in the U.S. oil patch and a one-unit decline in the miscellaneous count, the combined domestic rig count of 588 was down by two for the period, according to the latest numbers. The total count was down by 42 from a year earlier, with gas rigs 22 units lower.

Total vertical rigs were flat at 15 week/week in the United States; horizontal rigs were also flat at 523. The latest total included a net two decline of directional units to 50.
