Chevron Corp. CEO Mike Wirth is calling out the Biden administration for taking cheap shots on the natural gas industry, urging that a directive be lifted that has deferred approvals of some U.S. LNG projects.

"The case for natural gas is so strong that only politics can get in the way," Wirth said Tuesday before a standing-room-only audience at Gastech 2024 in Houston. The administration's “attacks” on industry, including a decision to pause liquefied natural gas exports pending a review, "elevates politics over progress."

Wirth, who helms one of the largest integrated energy companies in the world, said the moratorium on project approvals would increase costs and threaten global supplies. Without natural gas, many overseas customers would depend on coal, he said, which has higher emissions.
