A federal court’s recent decision to vacate approval of a natural gas pipeline expansion in the Northeast will be disruptive to customers in the region, FERC Chairman Willie Phillips said Thursday.

Transco Pipe Expansions

During the regular open meeting of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Phillips said the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia (DC) Circuit had “erred in vacating our authorization" in 2023 of the Regional Energy Access (REA) expansion (No. CP21-94-001).

The expansion by Williams subsidiary Transcontinental Gas Pipeline LLC (Transco) would add 829,400 Dth/d of capacity to REA.
