ExxonMobil, EOG Top List of U.S. Land Drilling Customers as Natural Gas Prices, Rig Counts Slump

ExxonMobil was the top U.S. land drilling customer by footage during the first quarter of 2024, according to new data from Enverus.

Onshore wells commissioned by the supermajor during the period added up to a total drilled measured depth (MD) of 4.23 million feet, researchers found, with laterals averaging 11,971 feet, or about 2.3 miles. Oilfield services giant SLB Ltd. defines MD as the “length of the wellbore, as if determined by a measuring stick.”

Multi-basin independent EOG Resources Inc. came in a close second with a total MD of 4.02 million feet and an average lateral length of 9,218 feet.
